Speedboat or Cruise ship
How do you see yourself?
Are you a tiny little boat that goes very fast, can turn on a dime but has very little capacity and struggles when turbulence comes?
Or
Are you the huge ocean liner that is in it for the long haul, has significant potential, and prefers stopping to see the sights over proving how fast you can get there? You notice you can't turn on a dime, but with that, storms, even the big ones don’t toss you around as much. How do you see yourself?
Which one would you prefer, really prefer?
For many the Christian life is assumed to be a race to certain place, turn on a dime (accept Christ), then race off again. Sadly, that does not reflect reality. In Christ, there is often a call to change. This change is not just for the moment, it is for a lifetime. This could be seen in light of the big cruise ship, slow and steady, making changes in direction a little at a time. Along the way there are things to stop and see, reflect on, maybe ponder if you will. Looking around, you might think you are alone – one big ship, but this ship has lots of room and lots of participants. This is not traveling alone so when the waters get rough (and they will still get rough), the unrest may be less unnerving.
If it seems like the cruise ship would make for a better existence, we invite you to consider Christ’s call to live with him as your Captain – allow him to guide you and walk with you through the storms of life. At the same time, New Life would like to be right there with you – co-passengers – on the voyage of life, in the rough waters and when it is smooth sailing. Together is better!
